This
book is a collection of Professor Cui Yonghua’s academic researches over nearly
40 years. The 46 papers selected cover six major aspects of Chinese language
teaching: CFL teaching theories, design of Chinese language teaching, teaching
of Chinese language elements, Chinese language textbooks, teaching resources,
and history of contemporary CFL teaching. This book observes international
Chinese language education and CFL teaching from an all-round, cross-disciplinary
perspective involving such basic disciplines as linguistics, psychology,
pedagogy, and culturology, discussing a series of topics about the concept of
Chinese language, the concept of Chinese language teaching, Chinese language
teaching ideas, and the Chinese language teaching system. With a broad horizon,
this book covers many layers of this discipline, including the theories,
instructional design, classroom teaching, teaching of language elements,
textbooks and resources, history, etc.
Cui Yonghua, a professor at BLCU, has been devoted to Chinese language
teaching and research in BLCU since 1981 when he graduated from the Chinese
Department of Peking University with a Master’s degree in literature. Mr. Cui
used to teach in Oberlin College (the US), the Summer Chinese Program of
Middlebury Institute (the US), University of G?ttingen (Germany), and The
University of Sheffield (the UK). Cui’s research mainly focuses on Chinese
grammar, Chinese language teaching, Chinese information processing, and language
teaching theories. Cui’s previous works include: 1) monographs: Classroom Techniques for Teaching Chinese as
a Foreign Language, Teaching and
Research of Chinese as a Foreign Language and An Introduction to Design of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language;
2) scores of academic papers; 3) Chinese textbooks (editor or co-editor): New Concept Chinese, Standard Course of Chinese, and Learning Chinese.
