Using multimedia is the tendency of classroom teaching, especially that in language classes. Nowadays, most Chinese universities have teaching facilities for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL). In these classes, a number of teachers need to design and make multimedia courseware and are interested in doing so. In some universities, designing and making multimedia courseware are one of the teaching materials in the textbooks and teacher training courses of TCFL.

Zheng Yanqun, a Professor of Beijing Language and Culture University and Supervisor of Master candidates, studies the theory and application of modern educational technology in TCFL (Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language). As the Chief Investigator, she has finished many projects of Hanban and Beijing Language and Culture University. She has participated in many key projects sponsored by Ministry of Education. Furthermore, she offered specialized courses, like Chinese Multimedia Courseware Design, Database Resource and Research on Chinese Language Education for Foreigners. She supervises graduates majoring in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics with a specialization in Language Information Processing. She is also the supervisor of graduates majoring in Curriculum and Pedagogy with a specialization in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. She wrote a monograph, Computer Technology and Teaching Chinese around the World. In addition, she was the Chief Editor of Multimedia Dictionary of Chinese characters, Studies on the Theory of Computer-assisted Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, and Studies on the Practice of Computer-assisted Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. She was also the co-author of the book, A Survey of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.
