The purpose of this book is to help test-takers of HSK. It includes two parts. The examples and explanations on the common function words of HSK are provided in the first part and the simulated tests of HSK are included in the second part. All the function words are selected from Outline of HSK Vocabulary and Chinese Characters. Under each entry, a large number of practical reading materials are designed, including which level this word is classified in the Outline of HSK Vocabulary and Chinese Characters, its parts of speech, pronunciation, English translation, explanations, words that it collocates with, example sentences and synonyms. Besides these, the differences and similarities between this word and other ones, the explanatory note of this word and exercises are given. All the reading materials make this book easy to learn and refer to.
As an HSK-oriented book, the author of this book fully considered the characteristics of TCFL (Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language) and Chinese learners. For instance, only the most commonly used and tested points were touched upon when the author introduced the "ba" sentence; in the example sentences, the explained words reappear instead of using "~" to replace these words. Furthermore, compared with other Chinese dictionaries, the words are given full account of rather than simply using their synonyms to explain them, which reflect the characteristics of TCFL (Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language). The simulated tests, closely related to the examples and explanations in the text, covers almost all the related question types of HSK, which is very practical.
Chen Tianshun, Associate Professor of Beijing Language and Culture University, has been studying on TCFL (Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language) and Chinese tests for many years. He was the editor-in-chief of Chinese Reading Course (Grade 2) and HSK Practice Tests.
