This book includes some research papers which are the most representative in the Chinese grammatical studies in modern Japan. The papers mainly deal with such topics as “tense and aspect”, “grammaticalization and subjectification”, “result and complement”, “causative and passive”, “spatial and existential”, “pronouns, numeral-measure words and adjectives” and “comparison between Japanese and Chinese”. Each topic is dealt with in several papers, which, oriented to cognitive and functional studies, are characterized by innovative theories, Japanese flavor and abundant data as well as a strong sense of the times since most of them were published after the 1980s.
