This book makes a systematic study on the current-event fiction during the later years of Ming Dynasty and the early years of Qing Dynasty. Altogether 14 novels are dealt with in the book. The discussion focuses on the title, category and characteristics of each novel as well as the inherited and innovative points in it. The current-event fiction represented by the Defeating Li Zicheng series, the Denouncing Wei Zhongxian series and the Defending the East of Liao series is studied in the book, and the artistic value and history of them are systematically reviewed.
Ms. Cheng Min, born in Binzhou, Shandong Province, holds a Ph.D. degree from the Chinese Department of Peking University and is now an assistant researcher in the College of Humanities and Social Science of Beijing Language and Culture University. Since 1998, she has published dozens of papers on journals such as Theatre Arts, Journal of Ming-Qing Fiction Studies, Chinese Culture Research, A Dream of Red Mansions and Pu Songling Studies. Ms. Cheng’s current research interests include ancient Chinese fiction and Ming-Qing prose.
