Jump High, written by College of Chinese Language and Literature, Beijing Normal University, is a series of Chinese textbooks for the compulsory courses foreigners take in college. This is the Japanese-Chinese translation textbook designed for intermediate Chinese learners of international students. The exercises in the translation course help students reinforce what has been learned about Chinese, facilitate their learning of other compulsory courses and improve their Chinese proficiency. This textbook has 15 lessons, each consisting of five sections, namely, Text, Vocabulary, Key Points, Explanations and Exercises. The “Text” section includes an interesting short dialogue. The “Key Points” section, designed for the reinforcement of Japanese sentence patterns, focuses on the examples of translation and provides the grammar notes also. The “Explanations” section makes detailed comparisons and analyses of the language points difficult for Japanese students to learn. Rich in content and diverse in form, the exercises in each lesson are designed centering around the language points in the ““Key Points” section and the “Explanations” section, enabling students to further grasp the translation focus in this lesson.
