Embedded Monosyllabic Words
(or abbreviated as "Embedded Words") refers to a group of
monosyllabic words which are easy to combine with other words but they must be
used in pairs (i.e., embedded disyllabic prosodic module). They are discovered
using new theories. They were regarded as half free morphemes, emphasizing that
though they act as members of sentences, they are limited in their distribution
and cannot be used independently. This conclusion was based on the fact that
the analyzers didn't pay attention to the reasons behind the phenomena. From
the perspective of prosodic grammar, these words are monosyllabic words with
free syntax and bounded meters. They are created to meet the solemn style and
are based on lexical rules. Solemn style is not widely used as formal style or
informal style. These words are limited in number, but they reflect that
vocabulary must be differentiated based on style.
