Idiomatic Phrases in Daily Life has two volumes. This is Volume 1, which includes 200 common phrases divided into three types—those describing mentality, those depicting a behavior and those describing a quality or state. Under each type, there are positive/affirmative phrases and ironic/critical phrases among others.
Each entry is provided with pinyin, Chinese, English and Russian definitions, and several example sentences and dialogues. Elegant, lively and interesting illustrations are provided to help learners better understand these idiomatic phrases.
At the end of the book there is an Index in Alphabetical Order showing page numbers to facilitate learners’ search.

Wang Duan is a teacher in Dalian University of Foreign Languages whose research focuses on the methodology of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and on ancient Chinese culture. Ms. Wang teaches basic Chinese, intensive reading, listening, speaking, reading, writing, Chinese culture and communication, and cross-cultural communication, etc. to international students at various levels, including advanced students, undergraduates, and postgraduates majoring in International Chinese Education. Besides regular classroom teaching, Ms. Wang has engaged in HSK pre-test training many times, and therefore is quite familiar with the question types, language points and test-taking strategies of HSK. Ms. Wang has been a HSK question-maker since 2008, and in July of the same year, she took a question-maker’s training program of Hanban in Beijing. She has been abroad several times for advanced study and training.
