Redundancy is one of the three major language natures; however, it hasn’t been adequately studied in the field of linguistics. Almost all the studies of redundancy in modern Chinese so far has been partial and fragmentary and split it into lexical, syntactical and other different aspects. Taking redundancy as an integral language phenomenon, this book provides a comprehensive study of redundancy demonstrated in vocabulary and syntax in modern Chinese. This book not only presents a holistic summarization and partial description of redundancy, but also strives to explain the cause of redundancy employing cognitive linguistics and other latest linguistic theories to make a more comprehensive study of redundancy in modern Chinese.
